Freshwater Health Index

Branding + UX/UI Design + Development

Overview

Currently, 80% of the global population faces threats from inadequate water quantity or quality, while less than 1% of Earth's freshwater is accessible for human use. By 2030, the demand for water is projected to exceed its reliable supply by 40%. The Freshwater Health Index is a web-based tool that evaluates ecosystem health by linking freshwater systems, the benefits they provide to people, and the governance structures that manage them.

The FHI team wanted to help people understand their reports in a highly visual way. We started with animating a video explaining how the index works and what it means, but thought these reports would benefit from data visualizations making the content easier to digest. The combination of animated gifs and charts keep users engaged with the information. Since the FHI reports are read and shared globally, we collaborated with team members in different countries to translate the reports and added custom Javascript to translate our web pages into Chinese, Spanish, and Portuguese.

This website has been used to share report findings at conferences and was very well recieved by the FHI team.
